Dr. Gurubhagavatula is an award-winning physician who trained at Johns Hopkins Medical School and earned an MPH from Harvard University. She is now an Associate Professor of Medicine at the University of Pennsylvania (UPenn) in Philadelphia. Her specialty and expertise is in sleep, an area in which she has helped create public policy that benefits all Americans. In 2021 she won an award from the American Academy of Sleep Medicine for her work in addressing key safety issues such as drowsy driving, school start times, daylight saving time, physician burnout, shift work, and mitigating the transmission of COVID-19 in sleep centers. At UPenn she directs the Sleep Fellowship, leading the training of future sleep physicians.
