DESCRIPTION:A lecture by Dr. Melissa Klapper\, Goucher class of 1995.  Dr. 
  Klapper is Professor of History and Director of Women's and Gender Studies
  at Rowan University in Glassboro\, New Jersey.  She earned her BA from Gou
 cher College in 1995 and her PhD in American women's history from Rutgers U
 niversity in 2001.  She is the author of Jewish Girls Coming of Age in Amer
 ica\, 1860-1920 (NYU Press\, 2005) and Small Strangers:  The Experiences of
  Immigrant Children in the United States\, 1880-1925 (Ivan R. Dee\, Publish
 er\, 2007).  Dr. Klapper's research has been awarded multiple grants and fe
 llowships from such sources as the American Jewish Archives Center\, Nation
 al Endowment for the Humanities\, Schlesinger Library of the History of Ame
 rican Women at Harvard University\, and the YIVO Institute for Jewish Resea
 rch.  Her new book is Ballots\, Babies\, and Banners of Peace:  American Je
 wish Women's Activism\, 1890-1940 (NYU Press\, 2013).\n\nThis event is free
