During Japan’s Edo Period (1603-1868), Japanese artists played a pivotal role in setting the stage for the “modern art” movement in the West. This documentary film explores their innovations in stylization, abstraction, minimalism, surrealism, geometric composition, and the illusion of 3-D. The screening will be followed by Q&A with the writer and director, Linda Hoaglund.
