Debuted at the 2011 Sundance Film Festival, Miss Representation is an invaluable documentary that sheds light on exactly how the mainstream media contributes to the under-representation of women in positions of power and influence in America.
Written and directed by Jennifer Siebel Newsom, Miss Representation takes a refreshing approach to unpacking the media-constructed collective message that a ‘woman’s value and power lie in her youth, beauty, and sexuality, and not in her capacity as a leader.’ Featuring interviews with people ranging from Condoleezza Rice to Rachel Maddow, Miss Representation challenges the media’s limited portrayal of women.
