A one-week creative writing and college essay workshop for high school students who love to write!

SESSION

Monday, July 11 – Friday, July 15, 2022, 9 a.m. – 3:30 p.m. ET

Lunch will be included in the Goucher College Mary Fisher Dining Hall.

PROGRAMMING

Students in the Young Writers' Camp will work with experienced writer-instructors at Goucher’s renowned creative writing center to: 

  • Participate in an intensive personal essay writing workshop as they prepare their college essays
  • Study various genres of creative writing with published authors
  • Explore Goucher campus and college life
  • Receive feedback on their writing from peers and instructors
  • Create an anthology of student writing.

INSTRUCTOR

Will Schutt is a lecturer at the Writing Center at Goucher College and author of Westerly, a collection of poems selected by Carl Phillips for the Yale Series of Younger Poets. He is also the translator of My Life, I Lapped It Up: Selected Poems of Edoardo Sanguineti, Fabio Genovesi's novel The Breaking of a Wave, and Atlantis: A Journey in Search of Beauty by Renzo and Carlo Piano. He is also the recipient of several awards and fellowships, including a National Endowment for the Arts Literature Translation Fellowship and the Reginald S. Tickner Fellowship at the Gilman School.

VISITING WRITERS

Every year we bring award-winning authors and editors to campus to work with our students. Past guests include Nate Brown, Maud Casey, Danielle Evans, Leslie Harrison, John Murillo and Jeannie Vanasco.

LOCATION

The Goucher College Young Writers' Camp will be held on Goucher College’s 287-acre campus in Baltimore, MD, just off the Dulaney Valley exit of I-695. Get directions.
