Helicon’s 33rd Annual Winter Solstice Concert
Helicon's 33rd Annual Winter Solstice Concerts. 3:30 PM and 7:30 PM. Helicon is Ken Kolodner (hammered dulcimer, fiddle, and hammered mbira), Chris Norman (wooden flutes, whistle, small pipes, and vocals), and Robin Bullock (guitar, mandolin, cittern, and piano). Joining Helicon will be The Ken & Brad Kolodner Quartet with everyone’s favorite bassist, Alex Lacquement and the fabulous West Virginia native Rachel Eddy (fiddle, vocals, guitar; www.racheleddy.com). And for their third year, Charm City Junction (www.charmcityjunction.com) joins the fun. CCJ has just released their second CD Duckpin which just #3 on the Billboard Bluegrass Charts. The quartet includes Kolodner’s son Brad Kolodner (banjo, fiddle, gourd banjo, and vocals), IBMA Fiddler of the Year Patrick McAvinue, Alex Lacquement and Sean McComiskey (Irish button accordion). The Winter Solstice concert repertoire is wildly varied including traditional and seasonal music from around the world (including Appalachian or old-time, Bluegrass, Celtic, Quebecois, Europe, Africa, the Far East and elsewhere!). And once again, the man in the bright red pants will be North American Step Dance Champion Jonathan Srour to steal the show. Do not miss this Baltimore tradition that attracts nearly 2,000 people annually!
