The Missing Component: Heritage Species for Historic Preservation
About this Event
Liz Cohan, M.A.H.P. '23, will talk with program director Melanie Lytle about her multidisciplinary approach to historic preservation that urges us to go beyond people-forward preservation to adopt a living-species-centered practice. She proposes how our documentation process should include culturally significant nonhuman species so that we can fully understand the complex historical relationship between species, people, and places and manage cultural landscapes holistically as dynamic systems. Liz is the 2023 Goucher College M.A. in Historic Preservation McCullough Award Recipient for her thesis, an M.S. in Conservation Biology, and an architectural historian at Jacobs.
