DESCRIPTION:The Studio Art Department proudly presents our 2023 Nancy G. Un
obskey '60 Visiting Artist\, Derrick Adams. He will have a conversation wi
th Thomas James about his work & the exhibition in the Silber Gallery. We'
ll get a glimpse of his 20+ years of creating artwork. Taken from his webs
 ite:\n\n"Derrick Adams is a Baltimore-born\, Brooklyn-based artist whose c
 ritically admired work spans painting\, collage\, sculpture\, performance\
, video\, and sound installations. His multidisciplinary practice engages
the ways in which individuals’ ideals\, aspirations\, and personae becom
 e attached to specific objects\, colors\, textures\, symbols\, and ideolog
ies. His work probes the influence of popular culture on the formation of
self-image\, and the relationship between man and monument as they coexist
and embody one another. Adams is also deeply immersed in questions of how
African American experiences intersect with art history\, American iconog
 raphy\, and consumerism."
